He polled 17,252 of the total valid votes cast to beat the incumbent Kyeremeh who garnered 14,312 votes.
That of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) also polled 908 votes.
The poll which was conducted peacefully in the area recorded a total number of 347 as rejected ballots.
Gyarko had entered into the race as the underdog looking at the experience and pedigree of the incumbent.
He lasted for only one term but was immediately made the Municipal Chief Executive for the area when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won power in 2008.
Mr. Kyeremeh came back strongly in 2012 to put up a spirited fight that won him the seat again.
