This is contained in a statement issued by the Commission nine hours after the close of poll.
Campaign manager of the NPP Peter Mac Manu said out of 80 per cent of the certified polling station results announced so far the NPP has taken an unassailable lead and called on the president to concede.
The opposition party has been criticised for its declaration.
After issuing the statement, the EC organised a press conference condemning the premature declaration by the NPP
Director of Elections Samuel Tettey said it is only the EC that has the constitutional right to declare results and cautioned all political parties to desist from declaring same.
"The Commission urges the general public to remain calm as it awaits certified results," he said.
Explaining why results from the collation centres have delayed, the Director of Elections said the EC is this year running a parallel system of manual and electronic transmission of results.
The electronic data will have to tally with that of the manual results, he stated.
