Source: classfmonline. com - Deputy Minister of Transport Joyce Bawa-Mogtari has lauded the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, for exhibiting “maturity” by calling on his supporters to remain calm as they anxiously wait on the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare the final results of the December 7 election.
Many agitated supporters of the NPP have put pressure on the election management body to declare the results of the polls.

Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday organised a press conference, where he appealed to his supporters to give the EC time to do its work, urging them to maintain the peace and encouraged them to be calm.

In reaction to the move by the opposition leader, Mrs Bawa-Mogtari told Prince Minkah on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Friday 9 December that Mr Akufo-Addo acted maturely.

“I do think yesterday the press conference held by the flag bearer actually had a totally different tone. He was appealing for calm, he was appealing for peace and what have you. It is actually the first time I have witnessed the leader of the opposition actually hold such a press conference and exhibit a level of maturity that I’ve actually been hoping to see over the period. So, certainly, we must all be on the same page. We need our supporters to remain calm and to remain resolute. Our president has never and has yet to let us down. Indeed, at the end of it all, Ghana will continue to be the beacon of democracy that we all envisage,” she said.

According to the deputy minister, who was also spokesperson for the governing party’s 2016 re-election campaign, the president was impressed with the conduct of Ghanaians.

“The president is impressed with the way people have conducted themselves before, during, and after the election. We continue to await the final declaration and outcome by the constitutional body, the electoral commission and even in that period I can tell that the good people of Ghana are going about their regular duties, going about their regular business in peace and in security,” she stated.
