Arrogance was NDC’s bane that led to their defeat – Chief

Proverb: "It's more difficult to wake up a man who is pretending to be sleeping than a man who is really sleeping."
Chief of Akwapem Asetieso in the Eastern Region, Nana Abedi said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the just ended elections due to arrogance exhibited by some national executives of the party as well as President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the traditional ruler who was speaking on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa morning show with Bright Kwesi Asempa, said the display of open opulence getting to the December 7 elections was the order of the day, as long convoy were seen following the President throughout his campaign tour.
“I was by the road one day when they were passing to the Peduasi Lodge at Aburi and I was shocked by what I saw. I counted as many as 112 vehicles including V8s; think of the amount used in fueling those vehicles.

All those things people of Ghana were watching and they came to conclusion that there must be change and there was a change.” This comes a day after a leading member of the NDC and the out-going Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Enoch Teye Mensah attributed their lost to complacency.

He indicated that the defeat may shock many party members, because everybody had thought the 2016 election was going to be won on a silver platter. But Nana Abedi maintained that Ghanaians were fed up with the arrogant posture being exhibited by the President and his appointees.

“How can Koku Anyidoho who is not in the class of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President elect, spews unprintable words against Dr Bawumia and the President say nothing.

How do you expect Ghanaians to feel when you keep shielding your perceived corrupt ministers by bringing them to the Flagstaff House? Those are all things that led to their defeat,” he cited.

He also said he did not understand why the President should be flying to do his campaign when the opposition parties were using the road. This he said contributed greatly to his defeat since the electorate thought it was an ‘insult’ to them.

“The president may have done roads and built markets but his defeat was mainly due to issues of arrogance, the dead goat syndrome, I wasn’t enthused at all when I heard him said that, it was as if he now thinks nobody can touch him.”

Nana Abedi also charged the in-coming NPP administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure that within three weeks after assuming office, parliament passes the Right to Information Bill into law and also make reality his promise of establishing a private prosecutor.
