Source: adomonline. com - Dean of Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Lydia Apori Nkansah has given the Electoral Commission (EC) 60 percent on its performance in the December 7 general elections.
She believes that the commission step up its game during the process as compared to the 2012 elections.

“The commission deserves a 60 percent mark for their effort to ensure transparency in the elections. The commission did well but there’s still room for improvement in the future” Dr. Apori who is also a transition expert stressed.

Dr. Apori Nkansah was speaking Wednesday on Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme hosted by Listowell Kwadwo Fordjour on issues regarding the recent elections in the country.

Dr. Apori Nkansah stated that, the collated results which were displayed by the Presiding Officer’s at the various polling stations made the process more transparent.

On 7th December, 2016 the governing National Democratic Congress’s candidate President John Mahama obtained 44.40% to lose his re-election bid to his main rival New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Nana Akufo-Addo who obtained 53.85% of the valid votes cast.

The general elections ended peacefully without any challenges and legal battles as compared to the 2012 general elections.

Dr. Apori Nkansah also commended the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and other stakeholders for their outstanding performance to ensure transparent elections.

She therefore urged the EC and the major stakeholders to do more to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the future.
