The spokesperson for the President-elect’s Transition Team, Mustapha Hamid, says the outgoing government has as at now not handed over any notes to the incoming administration contrary to the Transitional Act 2012.
Mr. Hamid says the law stipulates that the government should have prepared the handing over notes and given it to the Administrator-General a month before the election but almost a week after the election, the outgoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is yet to give them handing over notes.
The Spokesperson of the Transition Team of the President-elect was speaking in an interview on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Tuesday.
The host wanted to know how the work of the Transition Team is moving but Mustapha Hamid explained that “the work of the transition team will start when we have gotten the handing over notes”. “That is what we will read and ask questions but they said the handing over notes is not ready.”
He explained that “they should have prepared the handing over notes one month before the election and hand it over to the Administrator-General but they said it will be ready by tomorrow [Wednesday] and we hope to get it by 10am before we start”.
Asked whether the delay will affect the work of the team, Mr. Hamid said “the transition process will not end in January after the swearing-in of Nana Addo but it will end in February”.
He explained that after taking over, the meetings will go on until after one month. On how much will be used for the transition, Mr. Hamid said “the ruling government must answer any questions relating to funds that will be use during the sittings of the team”.
