Source: starrfmonline. com - Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, has condemned attacks on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Hours after the declaration of the NPP’s flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo by the Electoral Commission (EC) as Ghana’s president-elect, reports of alleged vandalism and assaults perpetrated by supporters of the NPP percolated the media.
Starr News’ Western regional correspondent, Emmanuel Ohene Gyan reported on Monday that a member of the NDC had been murdered by an NPP surrogate at Sefwi-Wiaso.

That was the second time in two days a member of the vanquished ruling party is being attacked and killed by a member of the victorious New Patriotic Party, following the presidential and parliamentary polls.

The deceased, Kwame Owusu, was reportedly attacked by his assailant, Dr. Bonney, after the two engaged in a heated political exchanges after the declaration of the results by the electoral commission.

Such reports, according to Prof Asante are “barbaric” and must be condemned by all peace loving Ghanaian.

The president elect at this stage, he told Accra-based Class FM in an interview “needs the peace of mind to put a team together to think through issues and we should not add to the trouble. This is not the time for people do those kinds of things… and so the supporters who are doing this should know they are doing a lot of harm to mother Ghana.”

Meanwhile, the NDC youth have indicated that its supporters would be forced to retaliate if the attacks on them persist.

“We the NDC youth will not fold our arms while our people are attacked violently,” warned the party’s National Youth Organiser, Sidi Abubakar on Monday at a press conference in Accra.

"We shall reply in equal measure whenever we are attacked by NPP supporters. A tooth for a tooth, an arm for an arm,” he added.
