According to him, the courage exhibited by delegates in the constituencies that have seen young candidates being elected was a clear sign that delegates of the party had faith in their abilities, and were confident that they could also deliver victory for the party in the 2016 election.
The NPP flag bearer, according to a statement, made this known when two of the newly elected parliamentary candidates, George Andah from the Awutu Senya West Constituency and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei from the Akropong Constituency, paid separate courtesy calls on him last Monday at his residence at Nima.
Campaign team
Mr Andah, who was the first to call on Nana Akufo-Addo, was accompanied by some polling station and constituency executive members; Joseph Aidoo and the other aspirants in the constituency; and Moses Arhinful Acquah, the 2012 parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), who is now a member of the NPP, and George Andah’s campaign team for 2016.
Nana Akufo-Addo, excited by the diverse support being received by Andah, who, he said, was part of a “new generation of politicians in NPP, applauded the delegates of Awutu Senya West for “having the courage to push one of them forward”, adding, “You have faith in him, and I'm happy you have come with him.”
On the 2016 Parliamentary Election, he noted that the eyes of the nation would be on what happens in Awutu Senya West, as a member of the President’s inner circle, Madam Hannah Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs, was likely to be the National Democratic Party (NDC’s) candidate.
Confident
This, in the view of the NPP flag bearer, will require “hard work, vigilance and unity,” if the NPP is to wrestle the seat from the NDC.
Nana Akufo-Addo was, however, confident of victory in 2016 because the “grounds are fertile for an NPP victory both in Awutu Senya West and across the nation,” if the NPP works hard.
“Ghanaians are desperate for change. They want the NPP back in power, because they know we are the ones who can manage this country to the satisfaction of all, and rescue the nation from the despondency she has been plunged into. I am confident that if we work hard we will win, and usher into our country a new era of progress and prosperity. We can make Ghana work again,” he said.
For his part, Mr George Andah thanked Nana Akufo-Addo for the warm reception and indicated to him that the campaign to win Awutu Senya West had already begun in earnest.
“There will be no excuse for us not to win the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2016, and I can assure you, on behalf of Awutu Senya West, that we will vote massively for you. Ghanaians want a change in their circumstances and that can only be delivered with Nana Akufo-Addo in power,” he noted.
On the “threats” issued by Madam Hannah Tetteh to teach him - George Andah - a lesson in 2016, the NPP man laughed it off, stating “If there is any lesson to be taught anyone, the electorate of Awutu Senya will rather teach Hannah Tetteh a lesson.”
Next to call on Nana Akufo-Addo was the parliamentary candidate for Akropong, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, who was also accompanied by a large entourage made up of polling station and constituency executives, led by the Chairman of the Akropong Council of Elders, Ambassador Afari Donkor.
In his remarks to Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, Nana Akufo-Addo encouraged her to bring on board her fellow aspirants who were not successful in the primaries, and also, especially, to tap into the vast experience of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. William Ofori Boafo, whom she beat in the primaries.
According to the NPP flag bearer, “This is a new terrain for you and you will need the wealth of experience of your predecessor in order to steer the course successfully.”
