Source: The Chronicle Ghana - Isaac Adika, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Ho West constituency has cut the sod for the construction of a mechanized borehole for the Amedzofe College of Education (AMECO) in the Ho-West District of the Volta Region.
When completed, the borehole would help address the perennial water problem confronting the institution for decades now, and which would go a long way to save students from spending greater part of their time to climb and descend the ancient hills surrounding the school in search of water.

The programme was in fulfilment of a promise made by the vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia barely three weeks ago, when he addressed students of AMECO on the current economic difficulties confronting the country with its associated hardships and how to come out of the situation.

Dr. Bawumia, during his lectures, told the students that: “I was informed that up to now the institution has no potable water and you students continue to suffer in search of water on daily basis; but today, I promise you a mechanized borehole to address the problem”.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, on behalf of Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Adika said the promise made by the NPP vice Presidential candidate is being fulfilled, adding the opposition party cares for the people and therefore it would not make promises it can’t fulfill.

Mr. Adika continued that when the NPP wins the 2016 election, it would reconstruct the road from Vane to Amedzofe, as well as tackle other development challenges confronting the people and students to promote effective teaching and learning in the College.

Continuing, the Ho West parliamentary candidate noted that the NPP would also do whatever it takes to enhance the economic activities in the area so as to make life more comfortable for the people.

On his part, Nana Agyakwa, Managing Director of Nifipiah Engineering Company Limited, the company undertaking the construction of the borehole said engineering works on the project have been completed and four areas have been identified out of which one would be drilled.

Nana Agyakwa assured the school authorities and Dr. Bawumia that work on the project would be completed within one week, adding when completed; the borehole would give clean potable water for the students in the institution.

Some of the students who spoke in an interview with The Chronicle expressed their joy over the project, saying when completed, the water problem confronting them over the years would be a thing of the past.

They thanked Dr. Bawumia for the project and pointed out that one of the greatest needs of well known institution has been water and now that the NPP vice presidential candidate has come to their aid, his name would remain in the history books of the College.

They explained that their happiness was due to the fact that they spend most of their productive hours in search of water and that the situation becomes worse during the dry season as many of the water sources dried up thereby compelling them to travel distances before getting water, a situation they noted affects their studies.
