Source: GNA - Dr Edward Mahama, aspiring flagbearer of the People's National Convention Party (PNC), has promised to work hard to stabilize the party to win power in the 2016 general elections.

The aspirant gave the assurance during the party’s Regional Congress held in Bolgatanga to elect Regional Executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
The aspirant mentioned that one of the major challenges facing the party was disunity and acrimony, and gave the assurance that he would work hard to address the problems to enable the party capture power this time around.

Dr Mahama appealed to the party delegates to vote for him as the Presidential Candidate based on his experience as four times flagbearer of the party, in the upcoming party’s National Congress.

He told the delegates that when given the nod, he would work towards building the party structures at the grassroots, and also provide party offices.

He explained that his return to active politics was driven by the demand of the people and Ghanaians who had suffered for far too long under the NDC and the New Patriotic Party.

“Ghanaians, particularly the youth and the vulnerable have suffered far too long under these two parties and it is only the PNC which can alleviate the plight of the ordinary Ghanaians,” he stressed.

He stated that Ghana needed a leader imbued with integrity and honesty and accountability, to address the many challenges confronting the country.

Dr Mahama who bemoaned the spate of youth unemployment in the country, mentioned that every year, the country tertiary institutions churned out about 6,000 graduates, and only 2,000 got employment, gave the assurance that when given the nod his government would work to address the unemployment problem.

On the parliamentary candidates of the party, he indicated that he would work hard to ensure that the party won more Parliamentary seats to help steer the development of the country.

In another development, the 2012 flagbearer of the PNC, Mr Hassan Ayariga, who is also seeking to be retained as the presidential candidate of the party, urged the delegates to vote for him based on the fact that he was young, full of energy and strength, to work towards winning power for the PNC in the upcoming general elections.

He told the delegates that in the 2012 elections under his able leadership, the party managed to garner a significant number of votes for the party, placing it in the third position, and indicated that when given the nod he would work to build upon it to capture power.

Mr Henry Fatchu, the immediate past Regional Secretary of the party, mentioned the lack of offices at the regional and district level as one of the major problems confronting the party, and called on whoever won, to give the problem the priority.

On the Regional Election, Mr Baba Musah was elected as the Regional Chairman, Mr Albert Adongo, the Regional Secretary and Mr Haruna Tuyab, as the Regional Organizer. The rest of the executives were elected unopposed.
