Source: adomonline. com -Pupils of Kwahu Aprahwem primary and Junior High school in the Kwahu West Municipal of the Eastern Region have been forced to swim to school anytime it rains.

According to reports, a bridge on the river between Aprahwem and Kofi Dede has broken and efforts to get it repaired have proven futile.

This, residents say, have made crossing of the river to other towns difficult especially when it rains.
Some of the residents claim the bridge was awarded on contract in 2012 but the contractor has not been on site.

Some students who spoke to Adom News’ Kwasi Azor said the situation has become unbearable because any time it rains; they have to resort to swimming to the end of the river to school.

The situation they added has affected teaching and learning since both teachers and pupils are left with no other option that to stay home when it rains.

“We are really suffering in this town because a bridge which is supposed to aid us in crossing to the next town has broken down. If is affecting our education,” a student bemoaned.

The residents are threatening to boycott the upcoming elections if the bridge is not repaired.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw Constituency, Eric Kwakye Darfour expressed shock at the delay by government in repairing the bridge.

He said he was written several letters to the Ministry of Roads and Highways but has not yielded any positive results.

The MP added that, economic activities in the town have stalled because traders are not able to transport their goods to the big towns.

Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour is therefore appealing to the Eastern Regional Minister and the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly to as a matter of urgency repair the bridge to enable farmers to transport food stuffs.
